Shift has created the design and layout for the new book “Trail for everyone ": an expansive review of trail running as an ideal way to enjoy nature and obtain physical strength; with a great selection of photographs documenting the best races in the region. Franjo Lovrić, a professor in the University of Mostar's Faculty of Kinesiology is the author of the book, which was co-authored by the noted Doctor of Medicine Pavao Vlahek, with whom the author has collaborated on many trail and sports projects. Within its 18 chapters the book elaborates on the role of physical activity, with a detailed elaboration of running and the power of trail running. It covers everything – from training and nutrition advice to featuring the best regional trails and much more, which each individual needs in order to become a well prepared and confident trail runner.
Trail running is simply defined as going for a run in the heart of nature, that is why the book’s design builds on the use of photographs of nature. The Shift team developed a naturally dynamic layout, which is at the same time both classic and playful, combining text and photographs to evoke the many features of trail running which the book elaborates. The book design is organized around eighteen chapters, but its playful and spontaneous – handbook style structure affords the reader easy jump-off points for referring to other topics, showing how the various aspects of trail running are interrelated and influence each other to gain a wholistic view of this great outdoor activity.
The design tweaks the book, along with its world class authors, conveying the features of this exciting sports activity in an informed way that feels dynamic and meaningful. One important focus of the design was set as emphasizing the beauty of the local mountains and trail paths and the vibrant energy of the runners, so that the reader can feel true energy and get inspired to consider starting trail running.
