The new play "Women Talks +/-1" by Dragan Komadina, directed by Biljana Čakić and presented by The Croatian National Theatre in Mostar is our newest collaboration with the HNK team. Theatre as an art form has a long history of great plays about love and the relationship between a man and a woman, from comedies to dramas. As a universal theme, it might seem as though there is nothing new to say and yet this topic can always be examined from a new angle.

In the creation of this theatre production, the director wanted to make the drama as similar to real life as possible, through content that is engaging and inspiring in a very practical way. Shift has created a poster design which embodies that. The design is created in a way to entice the viewer. The vibrant, and eclectic design comes to life with a dotted halftone technique as well as with colour where the pop art style perfectly captures that energy within an energetic and graphic poster design. Although subtle, we made sure that the colours also bleed into the typography using a lipstick style feminine font, which helped bring texture and a touch of playfulness to the poster too.

The result is a poster design that is capable of grabbing people’s attention at a glance and is interesting from a distance. It is designed in a way that even if people are only going to scan it for a moment as their eyes move on to other things, it will make them come back and look for longer to get more information. Through colour, text formatting techniques and simplicity, the poster portrays a play that is humorous and amusing but not a comedy, an interpretation of human suffering through sorrowful events, but is not a tragedy. The poster design delivers a powerful message about the new theatre production using very few elements.
